Using the Audit Log

How to navigate, filter, and understand the audit log in ToolTrack AI for compliance and security reviews.

Using the Audit Log

The audit log is a chronological record of every significant action taken in your ToolTrack AI organization. It is designed for IT admins and compliance officers who need to review activity for security or audit purposes.

Navigating the Audit Log

Access the audit log from the sidebar by clicking Audit Log. You will see a table of events sorted by most recent first. Each row includes:

  • Timestamp — The exact date and time the event occurred.
  • Event type — The category of action (see below).
  • User — Who performed the action.
  • Details — A short description of what happened, such as the tool name or the member affected.

Filtering Events

Use the filter controls at the top of the audit log to narrow results:

  • Date range — Select a start and end date to view events within a specific time window. This is especially useful when preparing for an audit that covers a defined period.
  • Event type — Filter by specific event categories to focus on what matters. For example, select only access_revoked events to verify that offboarding was completed properly.
  • User — Search for a specific person to see all actions they performed.

Filters can be combined for precise results.

Understanding Event Types

The audit log tracks the following event types:

  • tool_created, tool_updated, tool_deleted — Changes to your tool inventory.
  • access_requested, access_approved, access_rejected, access_revoked — The full lifecycle of tool access.
  • member_invited, member_removed — Team membership changes.
  • Onboarding events — When onboarding templates are applied and tools are provisioned.
  • Offboarding events — When the offboarding process is started and completed.

Tips for Auditors

When preparing for a compliance review, use the date range filter to match the audit period and export the results as CSV for offline analysis. See Exporting Audit Data for details.
